The Doge's Palace, (Italian: Palazzo Ducale), is a gothic palace in Venice, constructed from 1309 to 1424, in the original Gothic style. The palace was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the Republic of Venice. he palazzo's principal function was to provide a space for the government to carry out its civic responsibilities to its people. The doge did, in fact, reside in the palazzo. However, he held no real power and was a representative figurehead for the Republic.
Its two most visible façades look towards the Venetian Lagoon and St. Mark's Square, or rather the Piazzetta).

San Marco Basilica, (Saint Mark's Basilica), is a monument made unique by both its wealth of history and the magnificence of its façade and interior. In essence, it is a splendid workshop, where, through the centuries, worked great Italian and European artists. Its distinguishing Byzantine character appears particularly on the great mosaics illustrating St. Marco's tales, as well as the scenes of the Old and New Testament.)
